for want of a mirror

anonymous 20th century poet

has the moment passed
what with fall, winter, spring?
yet i linger
to launch my paper boats
to speak pictures beyond the subtext
to complete what i have started
to understand the complex
to decipher the riddles
to taste once again the sweat of your neck
all for want of a mirror.
